It is a famous pilgrim centre for Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Islam and Sikh. Rajgir in ancient times was known by many names like kusumati, Vridathpesdhar pur, Girivarj and Kushagerpur, Bajrapati name is found in Ramayan. Like other Buddhist sites of the site is also credited with the discovery by Alexander Cunningham. he made the first excavation here in 1861-1862.
